Slim Pickings on Zoar
For most anglers fishing in the May 6th Bergen points tournament on Lake Zoar CT, the action was slow or non-existent. After recent rains, the riverine lake had a good current flow, was clear and the water temps were just under 60 degrees. With a nice morning cloud cover, it looked to be a great fishing day... unfortunately, no one told the fish. Only two limits were weighed in and a few Top Bergen Anglers actually skunked. The bass did not fool Mike Rinaldi who landed roughly ten keepers to bag up five at 10.80 pounds. His First Place limit also included the 3.59 lunker of the day. Nice going with those mini tubes Mike! Vern Gatson, after winning Candlewood, is on a roll with 4 bass at 7.90 pounds. As on Candlewood, Vern connected with spider grubs for Second Place. For Third Place Jayson Mordhorst nailed the only other limit of the day with 5 Bass totaling 7.90 pounds…also on spider grubs. New Yorker John Hart returns to the cash winners club with 3 bass at 5.40 pounds. His three bass for Fourth Place were nailed on jigs. Rounding out the Top Five was our tournament director Mark Filippini who bagged three bass at 5.06 pounds. Next up is Lake Zoar’s big sister, Lake Lillinonah on June 3. Hopefully the bass will be a little bit bigger and more plentiful on Lilly,  the record holder for most Bergen Bass caught in a points tournament, 157 in 2000.
