Hello to all Bergen Members

Happy New Year to all Bergen Bassmasters and their families. I'm excited about what's on tap for the club in 2007 and look forward to serving you as your club president this year along with a terrific Executive Board. The board is shooting to make 2007 a year of rejuvenation for the club with some fresh ideas. We've kept busy since the last meeting back in November and there is quite a bit of news to pass along. I'd like to touch on a few things here and the remainder we'll over at the January meeting. The first meeting of the year will be an important one and everyone should make every possible arrangement to be there.

For starters, the board has secured the meeting hall at he town hall for the 2007 year. All meetings will be in our normal room with the exception of July, which will be held around the corner at he VFW hall on our regular date.

Winter activities are getting under way as Nick Albano has finalized our tournament trail and Classic locations. Nick has also coordinated multiple trips to Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's. The first trip, to Bass pro in Baltimore and the Timonium Expo is planned for January 13th. If you cannot make that one, join in for the Cabela's trip on February 17th as the club will get a discount as well.

At the January meeting, I will be taking names for anyone interested in a Bergen Bassmasters outing to a NJ Devils hockey game. The trip is planned for Saturday afternoon, February 24th at 1pm against Washington. It should be a fun outing so bring the kids along! Bring a friend! Ticket prices will depend upon how many people come but should be about $25 a seat .

The board has reviewed the finances from last year and due to some better than average fund raising (annual raffle, cheap Classic, good open tourney, and Chapter of the Year), we were able to come out ahead. Although these are not guaranteed and we are looking at some increased expenses this year (more expensive Classic, awards dinner, and new weigh in sink and bags). Fortunately, we have some added income from the town of Ticonderoga and savings from the NJ Federations. Nick will provide more details at the meeting.

Mentioning the awards dinner, the board has also secured a new locale for the dinner since the Old Hook Inn will be shutting down. The event will be held the Friday before Thanksgiving, as usual, at Biagio's in Paramus (www.biagios.com). For a few bucks more per head, we are excited that this will be a huge step up in quality, layout and location. I hope to see EVERY member at this year's dinner. This year was a bit over the edge as some of you have expressed and next year will be much easier to sit through.

Those are just a few items with much more to go over in January. Again, every member should plan on being there. With the holidays now behind us, it's time to start thinking about the 2007 fishing season, although, with the warmer than normal weather, I wouldn't be surprised if a few of you are still dunking minnows on the Hudson! I look forward to seeing you on January 18th!
