Ready to Rock and Roll

Greetings, Bergenites!  The draw for Candlewood is complete and in a few weeks, we will be starting our 2008 Tournament Season. With much excitement and anticipation, this is a great time of year for everyone. Who will be our next Angler of the Year? Who will make the Top Six? Who will win the first tournament? Will the Six Pound lunker pool be broken?  As they manage their first event, I look forward to assisting Jason Mordhorst and his Tournament Committee; and I wish everyone a safe, enjoyable and successful tournament. I am also glad to report that Bergen will successfully field two excellent teams to the NJBF Team Chapter Championship at Ticonderoga in June. Here is the final line-up:

Bergen                                                            Metro

Andy Karcich (Captain/Boater)                      John Ernest (Captain/Boater)

Steve Rusert (Boater)                                     Nick Albano (Boater)

John Hayden (Boater)                                     Rich Kalanz (Boater)

Bob Murphy (Rider)                                       John Hart (Rider)

Lou Zhelesnik (Rider)                                     Alan Goldman (Rider)

Kris Lechman (Alternate Boater)                   Stacy Zhelesnik (Rider)

·         Alternates to both teams: Bob Benjamin and Robert Curtis

·         Lodging: Green Acres, six rooms, Sunday night to Saturday morning (may be adjusted, let me ·  know your plans by the April meeting)

·         June 22 to 28:  Pre-fishing - Mon., Tue. & Wed.  Tournament – Thurs. & Fri.

·         Chicken dinner Wednesday evening c/o the NJBF

·         It would be wise to obtain a Vermont fishing license

·         SAVE MONEY – Travel with your roommate.

Kenny of Mastodon Sport Shop thanks the Bergen board and membership for the opportunity to set up shop on March 20th. Kenny had a nice selection of bassin’ supplies on hand and would be happy to pay a return visit next year.

Although our good friend, Larry Scarangella with Meadows Office Furniture, agrees to assist us in 2008, we cannot expect him to finance the whole event. As Norm Trass explained on March 20th, if each member averages $75 to $100 in pledged donations then our 20th Outing for the Disabled will be a big success. Right now, let’s not worry about what’s going to happen in 2009, we need to concentrate on June 7th, 2008. We should lend our full support to Brian Mahoney, Norm Trass, and Scott Mitchell and to all the key Bergen players who have made this respected Outing the Award Winning event that it is. Please pull down the necessary sponsor information and pledge forms from our website.

As a tip to those Bergen members wishing to enter the NJBF point’s tournament at Lillinonah on May 18th, send in your application ASAP. The first 35 applicants are guaranteed to launch at the steel bridge. The next group of applicants will be launching at the Long Pond Launch. As was initiated in 2008, even if it means that you may fish alone, all NJNF boaters are guaranteed to use their boat.
