Cabin Fever Worsens – Cure Expected Soon

Hello, Bergenites!  As we draw for Candlewood on March 20th the countdown to blast off is winding down. All the more reason that you should take advantage of the Cabela’s Road Trip re-scheduled for Saturday, March 8th. Due to the snow and ice conditions on February 23rd, Mark Scocco and I decided to postpone the trip by two weeks. Many club members (me included) have had their share of road accidents and there is no reason to start off the year with driving in dangerous conditions! Steven Pickett of Cabela’s in Hamburg will still honor a generous Bergen discount of 15%. Members who wish to make the trip will be meeting at the Montville Diner on route 46 West in Parsippany. After breakfast, we will be leaving via car pools at 7AM. Since the ride is not too long and Cabela’s opens early, expect to be back home Saturday afternoon.

Right now, it looks like Kenny of Mastodon Sport Shop of Highland Lakes, plans to set up a table with his most popular bassin’ goods on March 20th. I have asked him to make sure that he brings his custom made shaky head jigs. Be sure to let your friends know that visitors are welcome.

Bergen members who are eligible for the June NJBF Team Tournament on Lake Champlain must let Jason Mordhorst know of their definite decision on March 19th and must sign the NJBF final roster. Also, boaters need to give Jason a copy of their current boat insurance. This year, the NJBF will not be collecting Boater Safety Certificates. Like a driver’s license, it is just expected that if asked, you have the necessary paperwork. As of our February meeting, we have at least 12 names with a couple of alternates and look to field two competitive Teams for our 20th Team Chapter event. Although I have reserved six rooms, for six nights at the Green Acres motel (June 22 to 28), all twelve Bergen/Metro participants need to provide me with their arrival and roommate information by April 17th (or sooner).

Just a little editorial regarding our 20th Annual Outing for the Disabled: No doubt we all want this event to be the best ever. Unfortunately the Outing fund is not as hefty as we would like, therefore, all of us need to seek out additional contributions. Although Larry Scarangella will be assisting us, we cannot expect him to finance the whole event. Hopefully, if each member averages $75 to $100 in pledged donations and we get some support from Larry, then the Outing will be a big success. Right now, let’s not worry about what’s going to happen in 2009, we need to concentrate on June 7th, 2008. We should lend our full support to Brian Mahoney, Norm Trass, Scott Mitchell and to all the key Bergen players who have made this respected Outing the Award Winning event that it is.

On behalf of Jason Mordhorst and the new Tournament Committee beginning in March, I am reminding all Bergen members to:

If you can’t make a meeting, let Jason know if you are fishing the tournament
If you have a buddy who would like to fish as a casual observer, let Jason know. All observers enter 2 pools, their own and the regular lunker pool ($10 total fee).
Please be on the water and ready to go at least 15 minutes before the start time
Be sure that both livewell pumps are in working condition
Please allow the T committee and photographer to weigh-in first
Use the official Bergen weigh-in bags
Remove your DOA bass from the launch site (this is mandatory)
